Beyond his commissioned work, Max maintains an active practice as a recording artist and contemporary composer. His forthcoming album through Silent Songs will explore stillness, memory and emotional presence, creating immersive musical spaces that invite deep listening and reflection. Shaped by the belief that music can transform the way we experience time, place and emotion, these new pieces reveal the artistic voice that underpins his work across every medium.
His scores are recognised for their cinematic scale, emotional precision and rich sense of texture, seamlessly blending orchestra, electronics and live performance into immersive musical worlds. Whether writing for intimate character drama, large-scale spectacle or psychologically driven storytelling, Max approaches every project with the instincts of a filmmaker as much as a composer.
His work extends into audio storytelling through collaborations with BBC Radio, BBC Sounds and Audible, composing for acclaimed dramas featuring internationally recognised casts and further demonstrating his ability to create narrative through sound.
Max is Resident Composer for the contemporary dance company Made By Katie Green, a founding member of the physical theatre company Parrot {in the} Tank, and longtime composer for the award-winning comedy duo Goodbear. His collaborations also include Kestrel Theatre, creating powerful work with and for prison communities that has transferred to the Royal Court Theatre.
Away from the studio, Max is a founding member of the band Escapists, performing at Reading & Leeds Festival and touring with Manic Street Preachers and Imagine Dragons.
Today, Max is focused on composing for film, television and ambitious narrative projects, bringing a rare combination of cinematic vision, dramatic instinct and artistic individuality to directors and producers seeking music that is both emotionally powerful and unmistakably distinctive.
